Awkwafina was initially an American rapper and singer, releasing sly tracks that tackled questions of race and sexual identities with a funny twist. Prior to her move to Hollywood her career, she could perform a variety of tracks. Nora Lum was born to Chinese Korean immigrants living who resided in Forest Hills Queens. Her first experience with music came through the instrument of trumpet. Her classical, jazz and hip-hop education began when she was just a teenager. When she was in high the school, she focused on women's studies and journalism. She was also a student of Mandarin during a time in Beijing. Her focus shifted to music once she finished her studies. The track My Vag, a response track to Mickey Avalon's My Dick gained viral popularity on the Internet in the year 2012. It eventually made it on her first album Yellow Ranger released in 2014.
